2nd December 2010, England’s bid to host the 2018 world cup failed miserably as the FIFA president Sepp Blatter opened his envelope to reveal that it was Russia’s year. Russia, who are planning to spend 3.82 billion dollars on new sports facilities for the 2018 world cup are going to build more stadiums than needed.
The architecs that have designed all the stadiums for Russia are Populous and Erick van Egeraat. Two of Populous designed stadiums will be used, these are the 2014 winter Olympics stadium in Sochi, on the Black Sea coast and the Kazan Stadium which is being used for the 2013 university games. Van Egeraat is the Co-architect of the 2018 main stage, the VTB arena in Moscow. This build will be a 45,000 seater stadium, a health and sports centre, a 10,000- seat arena hall, restaurants, a retail and entertainment complex and even more facilities.
